Although there were some rumors that AT&T will lose its exclusive rights over the Apple iPhone this year, some old, but official court documents dating back to 2008 have been found, revealing that the original AT&T - Apple agreement on the iPhone exclusivity period has been set to 5 years. This means the agreement should expire in 2012, but of course, it isn't 100% certain if there weren't any changes following this initial contract. For example, last year we saw Brian Marshall, market analyst with Broadpoint AmTech, state that the deal between Apple and AT&T will expire in June 2010. However, this February a number of analysts insisted that Apple is going to extend its agreement with the carrier until 2011. So that's another possible option.
And what would you prefer? A couple more years of AT&T exclusivity, or a Verizon-branded Apple iPhone right now?
But while we are waiting for Apple CEO Steve Jobs walk on stage at this year's WWDC to announce the next iPhone and the carrier/s it will be available with, why don't you check out these hot iPhone 4G news stories.
